I have been looking forward to writing this post for a while now. This 'create' board was made by my wonderful friend, Nikko. When I announced that I was beginning this project, she asked me if she could contribute something to the classroom. She ran through some ideas she found online and then decided that she would make a board that would inspire students to create anything they wanted. Nikko also suggested putting up a line (like a clothes line) to display student work under this board. Thus we have essentially created a 'create' space.
Who is the mastermind behind the artwork?
Nikko is a freelance designer. She makes everything from business cards, logos, letterheads, web graphics, illustrations, paintings and the list goes on. Check out some of her work on her Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/KYNKgraphics, her blog or follow her on Twitter @KYNKGraphics.
What can we find in this artwork?
This is a beautiful piece of artwork. It is made of wood and it is quite large. Nikko has hammered nails to form the shape of the word and then added black wool around the nails following an intricate pattern. This is to make the word look 3-dimensional. Behind the word there is amazing detail. Delicate lines and fun images have been hand drawn onto the board. Here is a closer look:

A snapshot of the process
As if Nikko isn't awesome enough, she has even taken the liberty of taking photos during the process. She has also offered to create a DIY tutorial for students interested in making a board of their own. Thank you Nikko for taking the time out to create this for our classroom!
